Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle brand, Goop, has announced a restructuring plan that will result in the layoff of 18% of its workforce, impacting approximately 39 employees. This decision comes as the company aims to streamline operations and concentrate its efforts on core areas: fashion, beauty, and food.
Despite this workforce reduction, Goop reported revenue growth in 2023 and projects further gains in 2024. While specific figures were not disclosed, the company highlighted significant successes within its beauty and fashion divisions. Beauty revenue saw a 40% increase last year, driven by the expansion of both its premium Goop Beauty line and its more affordable good.clean.goop range, launched in 2023 at major retailers like Target and Amazon. G.Label, Goop’s fashion label, experienced an impressive 51% year-to-date growth.
This strategic focus on key areas is reflected in Goop’s recent business developments. The company has expanded its retail presence with the opening of its sixth store at Marin Country Mart in Larkspur, California. Furthermore, Goop Kitchen, its home-delivery healthy meal service, secured a $15 million capital raise led by Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick, valuing the business at $90 million. This investment will fuel Goop Kitchen’s expansion plans, supported by investors including CloudKitchens founder Diego Berdakin and DoorDash co-founder Stanley Tang.
Despite these positive developments, the company acknowledged the difficult decision to reduce its workforce. Paltrow will remain CEO, with two general managers overseeing the business divisions under her leadership. Goop will continue to operate its newsletter, brand partnerships, and live events such as its In Goop Health summit.
