Effective January 2, 2025, Amazon will implement a mandatory five-day in-office workweek for all employees. This decision, announced by CEO Andy Jassy, also includes the reinstatement of assigned seating arrangements at certain locations, including headquarters offices in Puget Sound and Arlington.

Concurrently, Amazon is undertaking a structural reorganization aimed at increasing the proportion of individual contributors relative to managers by a minimum of 15% by the end of the first quarter of 2025. This announcement follows employee protests held in May of last year at Amazon’s Seattle headquarters, which centered around concerns regarding environmental policies, workforce reductions, and the previous return-to-office mandate.
